The Gloucester High School indoor track team journeyed to Virginia Beach over the weekend to compete in the Atlantic Coast Last Chance High School Indoor Track and Field Meet. Head coach Scott Hundley said the team had a strong showing with 32 students setting personal records and two state qualifiers for the 1,600-meter run in Mya Baker and Rylan Allcorn.
Boys
In the boys’ 55-meter dash, Kohlby Wilson placed 35th overall out of 157 runners with a time of 7 seconds flat, a personal best. The Duke with a time closest to his was Jackson Taylor who ran it in 7.11 seconds for 55th.
Wilson finished 11th out of 172 runners in the boys’ 300-meter dash, running 37.28 seconds.
In the boys’ 1,000-meter dash, Allcorn set a personal best time with 2:40.96, securing eighth place out of 86 runners.
Clayton Miller also set a personal best, running the course in 2:47.65 for 15th.
In the boys’ 1,600-meter run, Allcorn secured a trip to states, placing fourth out of 72 runners with a time of 4:31.24, another personal best. Miller took 14th with a personal record of 4:50.76. Joshua Pinder set a personal record of 5:02.87, good enough for 22nd place.
In the boys’ 3,200-meter run, Aiden Pincince took 11th place with a personal best time of 11:08.04.
The boys’ 4×200-meter relay team of Xavier Johnson, Evan Frazier, Kohlby Wilson and William Turner finished ninth in the event with a time of 1:36.57, which was a best performance for the foursome.
In the boys’ high jump, Evan Frazier finished in ninth with a height of 5’4”. In the boys’ long jump, Wilson finished in 19th place with a distance of 18’7.25”. Turner took 21st with a personal best distance of 18’6.75”.
Johnson took seventh place in the boys’ triple jump with a distance of 39’10.25”. Jaylen Holmes finished ninth in the boys’ shot put, throwing 41’.5”.
Girls
In the girls’ 55-meter dash, Deziray Bellinger took 20th out of 121 runners with a time of 7.77 seconds. Bellinger also took 38th out of 156 runners in the girls’ 300-meter dash with a time of 45.66 seconds.
In the girls’ 1,000-meter run, Mya Baker finished in fifth out of 52 runners with a time of 3:13.55. The next Duke was Hannah Broadwell at 22nd with a time of 3:34.32.
Baker secured a trip to states in the girls’ 1,600-meter run with a personal best time of 5:28.76, placing sixth overall. Broadwell took 20th with a time of 5:58.64.
The girls’ 4×200 relay team of Ahjahnae Jackson, Deziray Billinger, Samantha Linaweaver and Tai Sewell finished in 13th with a time of 1:55.74. According to Coach Hundley, this was the second fastest time recorded in GHS history for this event. The school record is 1:55.1.
In the girls’ shot put, Jaida Peet took 12th with a distance of 29’3”. Jahdai Donald finished in 21st place, throwing a distance of 26’11.25”.
