After more than 50 years in operation, Bacon Street Youth and Family Services will be closing its doors on Nov. 21. Based in Williamsburg, the nonprofit organization has been providing mental health and substance abuse treatment since 1971. Its Gloucester location (6523 Main Street) will be closing as well. “The decision to close was not made lightly,” said a statement from the Bacon Street’s Board of Directors. “While financial pressures, staffing challenges, and reduced donations are common difficulties for organizations like ours, the rapidly changing landscape of funding and community need has compounded these challenges.” “While Bacon Street’s chapter is coming to a close, our mission will live on in the work of the many incredible organizations and individuals continuing to serve youth and families across our region.
