AVRIL GORE KALINICH

Avril Gore Kalinich, 92, of Gloucester, Virginia, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2016.

She was born June 2, 1924 in Corning, New York, to Ellsworth B. Gore and Wynifred M. (Hilk) Gore. She grew up in Corning, attended Corning Free Academy and Northwestern University in Chicago where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. She worked in New York City for Steuben Glass and later in life as a real estate agent in Morristown, New Jersey.

After returning to Corning she married John, her husband of 56 years. In 1956 they relocated and raised their family in the Morristown area where she enjoyed being a member of the local garden club before retiring to Gloucester in 1984.

Avril devoted a great deal of time to serving her community throughout her life including volunteering and fundraising at local hospitals and serving on the PTA at her children’s schools. Proud to be an eleventh generation American, Avril was a member and served as Regent of the Cricket Hill Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution where she raised funds to restore Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C. She and John enjoyed entertaining friends at their home in Gloucester and for many years held an annual Super Bowl party. She also was an avid bridge player. Avril was a parishioner at Ware Episcopal Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Kalinich (2005), and her daughter, Carol E. Kalinich (2015).

Avril is survived by son, John Kalinich Jr. and his wife Madeline of Whitehouse Station, New Jersey; granddaughter, Laura K. O’Connor and her husband Robert, also of New Jersey; grandson, John Kalinich III in Colorado, as well as many nieces and nephews. 

A private family service with interment at the family cemetery in Corning, New York, is planned.
