EDITOR’S NOTE: The Gazette-Journal is taking a look at some of the people that make Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue such a vital service to the residents and businesses of lower Gloucester County. This week, we spoke to Delaney Fleming.
Gloucester High School senior Delaney Fleming is a volunteer in the Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue Junior Program. She has been on the Junior Squad for close to a year, focusing on the EMS side of the program.
“I was in EMT Class through RCC [Rappahannock Community College] and decided I wanted to start volunteering somewhere local,” said Fleming. Deciding Abingdon was the right fit, she joined the squad and has been getting hands-on experience which will help as she works towards her future goal of becoming an Emergency Medical Doctor.
“This is just a great start for that,” she explained. “I want to get my paramedic [license] when I’m in college and then after that, I would probably go off to pre-med and med school.”
