AVFR fund drive total exceeds $50,000

Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Inc., has received 477 donations totaling $50,498.80 during its current drive that ends March 31, president Robert Parlett said Monday.

“Donations are still coming in at a steady rate,” Parlett said, as the squad tries to meet or exceed its fund drive goal of $100,000—the same as in 2014.

He said the cam[aign total is reached by a combination of the active campaign from late December through March 31 as well as other contributions received in memory or in honor of individuals throughout the year.

Despite the good support so far, the squad has heard from only about 5 percent of the requests sent out, Parlett said. About 8,000 solicitation letters were mailed in late December 2014.

In 2014, the squad surpassed its $100,000 goal, raising about $109,000, Parlett said.
