Avery appointed assistant principal at GHS

Cecil Avery Jr. of Suffolk, was appointed as an assistant principal at Gloucester High School in personnel action by the Gloucester County School Board during a special meeting Aug. 27. 

Avery fills the position previously held by assistant principal Butch Gross, who is now the assistant principal at Page Middle School.

Appointed to teaching positions were Mara Firth and Christina Coon of Gloucester, Michelle Bell of Cobbs Creek, Amy Coates of Moon, Amber Meland of Yorktown, and Valerie Sherenco of Lanexa. Jean Miller of Gloucester, was appointed as a physical therapist.

Appointed as teacher assistants were Erica Goodman and Judith Poland of Gloucester and Pamela Brown of Shacklefords. Dawn Gray and Shannon Halterman, both of Gloucester, were appointed to support services positions.

Resignations were accepted from support employees Lucinda Cook, Edith Crump and Tammie Brown. Retirement was approved for teacher assistant Elaine King, effective Sept. 1, and GHS school counselor ...
