The Mathews County Visitor and Information Center recently decided to cancel this year’s Autumn on Main and Vintage Market, originally scheduled for the first Saturday in October.

Director Emily Allen said decision was a difficult one, but that the center felt an obligation to the community to avoid planning any gatherings that put the residents of Mathews, participants, and those attending at risk ofCOVID-19 exposure.

“This event is very much family-oriented and largely community-based,” said Allen, “and we feel an obligation to follow precautions from the state.”

The annual event is intended to promote commerce downtown, celebrate Mathews County’s unique vintage store destination, promote small business entrepreneurs, and celebrate the fall season, said Allen, adding, “We look forward to next year—October 2021.”
