Austin, Boles to lead MHS class at Saturday’s graduation

Kacie Scarlett Austin and Rachel Ann Boles have been named the valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, for the Mathews High School Class of 2012, which will graduate on Saturday.

Ninety-four young men and women are expected to step onto the stage to receive their diplomas during the 73rd annual commencement exercises, beginning at 2 p.m. in the school’s Harry M. Ward Auditorium.

Austin, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Royce Austin of Port Haywood, received a class-leading grade point average of 4.3. She will be attending the University of Virginia in the fall, where she plans to pursue a pre-medical curriculum.

Boles, the daughter of Robin Boles of Mathews, finished her career at MHS with a 4.23 GPA. She will be attending the College of William and Mary, where she will be studying environmental science.
