AUDREY VIRGINIA LYELL RIPLEY

Audrey Virginia Lyell Ripley of Gloucester, passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2017, in Gloucester.

She was born Oct. 4, 1926 in Richmond, and raised on Oregon Hill. She graduated from John Marshall HS Class of 1945, and was a member of Pine Street Baptist Church; later she joined Salem United Methodist Church in Gloucester.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas H. “Bunton” and Lola Lawson Lyell; her husband, Oliver W. “Rip” Ripley, and grandson, Stephen R. Ripley.

She is survived by her son, Nelson Lyell “Rick” Ripley; grandson, Barrett Lyell Ripley; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Connor Ripley, and many beloved family members whose roots began in Mathews, Gloucester and West Point.

She and “Rip” were blessed with many loving friends who shared good times, music, drinks and laughter.

Audrey’s career included Lawyers Title Insurance Co. and the Henrico County Department of Police at Dabbs House. She served as a Walter Reed Nursing and Convalescent Center volunteer and was a Richmond ACCA Temple Provettes past president 1983.

The family would like to thank Riverside Walter Reed Hospital, Gloucester, and Riverside Regional Medical Center ICU, Newport News; everyone at Heron Cove at Sanders, Riverside Hospice, and Hogg Funeral Home.

A memorial service conducted by the Rev. Ann Tang and the Rev. Rita Staul will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2017, at Salem United Methodist Church, Gloucester, where she was a faithful member. Reception will follow. An interment service will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Richmond, at a later date.
