About the show
“Newsies,” a Disney Broadway musical based on the 1992 Disney film, was inspired by the real-life Newsboy Strike of 1899.
Nominated for eight Tony Awards, it tells the story of a band of runaway “newsies” who go up against Pulitzer, Hearst, and other powerful newspaper publishers to fight against social injustice, exploitative labor practices, and a corrupt establishment.
The dozen original songs won a Best Original Score Tony Award for Alan Menken and Jack Feldman and include such notables as “Seize the Day,” “Carrying the Banner,” “High Times, Hard Times,” “King of New York,” and “Something to Believe In.”
