Ellen DeMaria’s art exhibit “Poetry of Place” will open with a First Friday reception from 5:30-7:30 p.m. tomorrow at Arts on Main in Gloucester. There will be live music by Tom Euler; light bites will be served; and beer and wine will be available for purchase. The event is free and open to the public. The exhibit will be on display from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday until Saturday, Sept. 26. In “Poetry of Place,” DeMaria explores how a place lingers in memory—through changing light, shifting atmosphere, movement, color, and fragments of remembered experience, said a press release. Working in watercolor, acrylic, ink, and mixed media, she moves between recognizable landscapes, expressive abstractions, and intimate still lifes. About the artist DeMaria is a Virginia artist who began painting in childhood, inspired by her grandmother’s watercolors.
