Arts on Main, a Gloucester arts center, and Sanders, a Riverside active senior living facility in Gloucester, have partnered to develop a new program for Sanders residents that combines art and recreation.

The Senior Art Exploration Program is designed to enrich the lives of seniors in the Sanders community by providing creative arts experiences, said a press release. Instructor Anne Atkinson will teach weekly lessons that will focus on tuning fine motor skills, experimenting with a variety of media, and creative thinking.

Atkinson has been teaching art since 1999, said the release. She has worked with students of all ages, bringing them together to learn about art history and to dabble in paint, clay, and paper. Her goal is to foster self-confidence and pride in her students’ work.

Currently an instructor and volunteer at Arts on Main, Atkinson also teaches at the Bay School and the Riverside Nursing Home/Retirement Center in Mathews.
