Arts on Main celebrates Palette Pals

Arts on Main, Gloucester, hosted a reception last Thursday featuring the participants in this year’s second and third grade Palette Pals program.

One student from each elementary school in Gloucester received a People’s Choice Award. The winners were Abby Bailey from Botetourt, Tanner Rowe from Bethel, Anna Schaefer from Achilles, Sawyer Slavik from Petsworth, and Harvey West from Abingdon.

Conducted as an extracurricular, before-school program in grades K-5 in every elementary school in Gloucester, Palette Pals is led by each school’s art teacher.

The program’s focus is on teaching STEM-based art lessons that engage students in current SOL objectives in math and science. The goals are to provide hands-on learning through art making and to increase student understanding of concepts related to math and science content, said the release.
