Art by Gayle Merrill and Mel Neale and jewelry by Sharon Mason will fill the windows of the Rappahannock Art League Art Center in Kilmarnock throughout the month. Merril, a Washington, D.C. native who now lives in Gloucester, holds a bachelor of fine arts degree with a minor in education from Virginia Tech. After teaching high school art for 10 years while exhibiting her watercolor pieces, Merrill transitioned to oil painting. She finds her garden to be a primary source of inspiration and is motivated by its interplay of light and color. Her current series focuses on garden compositions that feature a rhythmic interaction of colors and shapes, blending loose strokes with elements of realism to create visually engaging works.
