Art by Gayle Merrill and Mel Neale and jewelry by Sharon Mason will fill the windows of the Rappahannock Art League Art Center in Kilmarnock throughout the month. Merril, a Washington, D.C. native who now lives in Gloucester, holds a bachelor of fine arts degree with a minor in education from Virginia Tech. After teaching high school art for 10 years while exhibiting her watercolor pieces, Merrill transitioned to oil painting. She finds her garden to be a primary source of inspiration and is motivated by its interplay of light and color. Her current series focuses on garden compositions that feature a rhythmic interaction of colors and shapes, blending loose strokes with elements of realism to create visually engaging works. Albuquerque, New Mexico native Mason has been immersed in painting and fiber arts from a young age, pursuing quilting, spinning, dyeing, knitting, and crochet as hobbies during her years raising a family.
