ARTHUR FORTIN JR.

Arthur Fortin Jr., 86, of Saluda, Virginia, passed away October 15, 2016 at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital.

Arthur was born June 10, 1930 in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, to Arthur Sr. and Roseanna Fortin, now deceased. He served 20 plus years with distinction in the U.S. Army. He received numerous medals during his Army career, including the Army Occupational Medal with Japan Clasp, Korean Service Medal and the Purple Heart Medal. Arthur was a brave and loyal soldier, as well as being a patient and loving family man. His discipline and patriotism he learned in the Army never left him. His leaving has left a void, but his memories will fill our hearts forever.

He was preceded in death by parents, granddaughter, Laura Billordo; siblings, Emaul Fortin and Jeanette Brassard, and father-in-law, Albert Sweeney.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 38 years, Alberta Fortin; children, Karen Fortin, Matthew Fortin (Maria) and Deann Holloway; grandchildren, Michael Rosenberg, Matthew Rosenberg, Stefany Duarte, Thomas Dixon, Tiffany Dixon, Tiara Dixon, James Holloway (TJ), Liam Fortin and Laine Fortin; great-grandchildren, Jaxon Dixon, Ivory Ward and Kieran Frank; siblings, Alice Schrecengust, Gloria LeBlanc (Raymond) Muriel Valliere John and Karen, and Rick Meyers; mother-in-law, Myrle Sweeney; and a host of brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, and his faithful canine companion, “Sassy.”

A service of Christian Liturgy conducted by the Rev. James Cowles will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 20, 2016, at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point, with military funeral honors. Inurnment will be private. The family greeted friends on Wednesday, October 19, 2016, from 6-7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
