Art Speaks to be a virtual exhibition this year

The Art Speaks eighth annual Juried Exhibition, sponsored by the Bay School Community Arts Center in Mathews, will be a virtual exhibition this year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

According to a press release, the decision to “hang the show” online rather than in the Art Speaks Gallery was made in the interest of the health and safety of the public who might attend the opening reception and the 57 artists from across Virginia who are participating in the show.

The virtual exhibition will feature 88 pieces of art, said the release, and will be presented on the Bay School website, www.bayschool-arts.com, from the opening on July 25 through Aug. 25. The work will be available to view and purchase 24 hours a day. After the show ends, the works will continue to be exhibited in an archival section of the website for one year.

Juror and Judge Nicole McCormick Santiago will judge the show online. The awards and prizes, which total $5,000, will be announced on July 25.
