The Bay School Community Arts Center will have an opening reception for the ninth annual Art Speaks Juried Exhibition from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, in the Art Speaks Gallery at 279 Main Street, Mathews. The public is invited. Members will be able to preview the show on April 29.
In celebration of the school’s 25th year in operation, founder Wendy Wells-Finn was selected to be the exhibit’s juror and judge. From 358 entries submitted, she chose 95 pieces to be featured in the show.
“All of the work submitted here shows incredible talent and a mastery of materials,” said Wells-Finn. “So, as a juror, how to decide which work of art to include, to the exclusion of others? At this time, in this place, and for this exhibit, the primary parameters for the selection of work were viewer involvement, eliciting an emotional response.”
Cash prizes totaling $5,000 will be awarded to artists at the opening reception for their 17 winning pieces.
