Arrest made on B&E, sexual battery charges

After a monthlong investigation, the Mathews County Sheriff’s Office announced on Monday that it had arrested a 64-year-old male resident of Gloucester on a felony charge of breaking and entering and on two misdemeanor charges of sexual battery.

The charges stem from multiple complaints received last month from tenants who reside in an apartment complex in Mathews, said a press release. The tenants alleged that a maintenance worker at the complex had illegally entered an apartment on multiple occasions over the course of several months and that he had made sexual advances and groped women.

The suspect was released on a $3,000 secured bond and has a hearing pending in Mathews General District Court.

Anyone with more information about the incidents is asked to call Investigator Will Hargis with the Mathews County Sheriff’s Office at 804-725-7177.
