A Hampton man was arrested last week and charged in connection with numerous thefts from unlocked vehicles and sheds that occurred in the Ware Neck, White Marsh and Hayes areas of Gloucester this month.
Christopher Austin Smith, 30, was charged with eight counts of grand larceny, five counts of petit larceny and two misdemeanor counts of obtaining money by false pretenses, according to Capt. J.W. Schick Jr. of the Gloucester Sheriff’s Office.
The items stolen between July 2 and last week included wallets and purses, cash, credit cards, personal identification cards, prescription medications, GPS units, cameras, fishing gear, hand and power tools and three firearms, according to Schick.
He said Gloucester investigators have recovered about $5,000 worth of the stolen items and 23 victims have been identified.
