Archaeologist to speak at K&Q Historical Society

Nicholas M. Luccketti, principal archaeologist at the James River Institute for Archaeology, will present a program on Sunday, April 23, at the quarterly meeting of the King and Queen County Historical Society.

The program will begin at 3 p.m. in the K&Q County Administration Building courtroom. The building is located on Allen’s Circle, King and Queen Court House.

Luccketti has surveyed and excavated at the Newington and Donald Robertson school sites in King and Queen County. He has also performed similar work at other sites in Virginia and North Carolina for major institutions including Colonial Williamsburg, the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities (now Preservation Virginia), and the First Colony Foundation.

The Courthouse Tavern Museum will be open at the completion of the program and refreshments served there. An exhibit covering the Newington stone house archaeological site is located on the second floor of the museum.
