April 8 meeting at THMS on new county flood maps

A Coastal Community Flood Risk Open House will be held from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, at Thomas Hunter Middle School. The public is invited to attend.

The open house will give Mathews residents “their one and only chance” to speak locally with FEMA representatives regarding the new flood maps, said building official Jamie Wilks.

Sponsored by the Mathews County Building Department, the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation and FEMA’s National Flood Insurance Program, the open house is for everyone, said Wilks—residents, property owners, business owners and any other interested parties.

Federal, state and local representatives will be on hand to provide information, said Wilks, including engineers, hazard mitigation specialists, insurance specialists, mitigation planners, outreach specialists, and the building department.
