April 30 is deadline for Main Street grants

The Main Street Preservation Trust will accept applications until next Thursday, April 30, for any property or business owner along Gloucester’s Main Street to apply for one of three types of matching grants to improve their buildings.

MSPT plans to award grants totaling a maximum of $80,000 this year, said Jenny Crittenden, the organization’s executive director. The target area is Main Street, from Main Street Center to court circle.

For façade improvements, grants are available up to $20,000 on matching improvements, Crittenden said. Façade improvements can include windows, doors, awnings, landscaping, exterior painting, exterior signage, site work and roofs where they are seen from Main Street, Crittenden said.

For interior improvements, grants are available up to $10,000, Crittenden said, and this is also a dollar-for-dollar match. These improvements could include interior painting, flooring, lighting, plumbing and electrical upgrades, she said.
