Mathews County is accepting applications from residents who seek to have outfall ditches placed on a priority list for cleaning. Private ditches are not included in the county’s ditch program.

During the winter, crews will work to clear ditch drainage areas of saplings, bushes and other accumulated debris. If the outfall ditches aren’t within the public right-of-way, all of the property owners whose land abuts the ditch must sign both the application and release forms to allow crews to enter their property.

Applications for the Outfall Drainage Ditch Maintenance Program are available at the Mathews Department of Planning and Zoning at 50 Brickbat Road, by visiting www.co.mathews.va.us, or by calling 725-4034.

Applications are due by Oct. 31.
