Applications being accepted for Main Street improvement grants

The Main Street Preservation Trust has opened applications for property or business owners along Main Street in the Gloucester village to apply for a matching grant to improve the façades of their buildings.

The MSPT plans to award grants totaling a maximum of $50,000 this year, said Jenny Crittenden, the organization’s executive director. Applications are due by 5 p.m. Friday, March 14.

The grant program provides recipients a 50/50 match, Crittenden said, with MSPT designating up to $20,000 for a single project in any given year. The business match can be more than the amount received from MSPT.

Those who receive an award may apply for funding for future phases of façade improvements, Crittenden said, or can collect receipts for work completed in the year before and then apply for a grant to pay for some of that work done in the next year.
