Applications being accepted for interim school board spot

Monday, Sept. 13 is the deadline for those interested in applying for the vacancy on the Mathews County School Board. The board is seeking applicants to complete the term of Dr. Michael Richards, who is stepping down due to health reasons.

Once appointed by the school board, the new member will serve until the expiration of Richards’s term on Dec. 31, 2011. Interested applicants are invited to complete a brief form available at the Mathews School Board office, or via the division’s website (www.mathews.k12.va.us).

The school board will hold a public hearing on the matter on the following day, Tuesday, Sept. 14, at 6 p.m. in the Mathews High School media center. The names of the applicants will be read and each person will have an opportunity to address the board.

The appointment of the interim school board member is expected to be made at the Sept. 21 regular monthly meeting.
