Anthony Demetris Berry Sr., beloved father, brother, and grandfather, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of June 12, 2025, at the age of 61 years old.
Anthony, or “A.D.” as many knew him, was born in Richmond, Va. He spent most of his life in Gloucester and Stafford, but his military and professional career took him all over the United States and across the globe.
After graduating from Gloucester High School in 1982, Anthony served in the United States Army for 20 years. He was a proud soldier and paratrooper, and worked in telecommunications, where he built a distinguished career serving in the White House. Following his military service, he continued his professional journey in telecommunications, spending his final years at AT&T as a project manager supporting the President of the United States.
Anthony was known for his love of motorcycles, his loyalty to the Dallas Cowboys, and his confident and competitive spirit. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Anthony was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Berry. He is survived by his father, Robert W. Berry; his siblings, Denita Dudley (Anthony Dudley), R. Levar Berry (Ioana Berry), and Harriet Matthews; his five children, Destini Berry, Anthony Berry Jr., Brianna Berry (Brian Agu), Alina Berry, and Marcus Berry; his long-term partner, Markita Lyons Gilbert, and her children, Tiara and Dwayne, and his eight grandchildren, who were the pride of his life. He also leaves behind aunts, uncles, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A viewing will be held on Friday, June 20 from 5-7 p.m. at J.K. Redmond Funeral Home in Shacklefords, Va. His memorial service will take place on June 21 at 10 a.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Gloucester County, Va.
