Another undefeated season for JV field hockey

The Gloucester High School junior varsity field hockey team closed out its second consecutive undefeated season with a 4-0 win over Nansemond River at GHS last Thursday.

Meg Teagle had a goal and an assist in the win and finished the season with 18 goals and 39 scoring assists. Hannah Hamay, the team leader in goals, scored her 28th of the season. Kate Neikirk and Maggie Ronan also scored.

The team finished with a 16-0 record on the season and outshot its opponents, 546-5. The Gloucester juniors outscored opponents, 125-2, and earned 250 penalty corners while allowing only four.

“While the statistics have been phenomenal to see on paper, it has been more enjoyable to see the effort that the entire team has put forward this year,” said Gloucester coach Joe Dougherty. “The progression from the first week of tryouts through the final whistle was more impressive.” ...
