Another loss for Lady Devils

After being kept off the field for a week due to rain and soggy fields, the Mathews High School softball team returned to the diamond Tuesday night. The girls traveled to Montross, where they fell to the Washington and Lee Eagles, 5-2.

Justice Parlett pitched five innings and Madisyn Jackson came in to close the game. The Mathews defense allowed five runs off seven hits. Offensively, the Devils also picked up seven hits, but only two runs.

Victoria Bing, Ellie Armistead and Jackson led the offense, picking up two hits apiece. Bing was 2-for-3 with a double; Armistead went 2-for-4 with a double, while Jackson was 2-for-3 with a pair of singles.

The Lady Devils hit the road again today to face the Northumberland Indians. During Spring Break, the girls will compete in a tournament on April 5-7 at the Lancaster Dream Fields. ...
