ANNIE VIRGINIA BARBER

A funeral for Annie Virginia “Ginny” Barber, 72, of Hampton, was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, in Little Zion Baptist Church, Hampton. She died Thursday, May 2, 2013.

She was born April 3, 1941 in Gloucester County to the late Elijah Spencer and Queen Esther Harris Jones. She was also preceded in death by three children.

Mrs. Barber received her education in the Gloucester County Public School System. Over the years, she was employed as a professional cook at North Carolina Barbecue in Yorktown and later at Hampton University in janitorial service. She served as deaconess for about six years at Lincoln Park Baptist Church (now Canaan Baptist) and for the last eight years at Little Zion.

Survivors include her husband of 33 years, Charles Wray Barber; seven children; three brothers, including Enos Jones of Gloucester; two sisters, Geraldine Tillage and the Rev. Rose Jackson of Gloucester; 12 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

Burial followed in the Albert G. Horton Cemetery in Suffolk.
