ANNE TRAMMELL BILLUPS

Anne Trammell Billups died peacefully October 20, 2016 at her home in Mathews, Virginia.

She was born in 1924 and raised on a family-owned and operated dairy farm in beautiful McLean, Virginia. Mrs. Billups was 92.

She was preceded in death by her parents, French and Beulah Trammell; brothers, Joseph and French Trammell, a loving sister and best friend, Nancy Robeson, and a devoted husband of 61 years, Andrew Billups.

She is survived by her daughter, Betty Selph and husband Charlie of Mathews; two sons, Andrew J. Billups III and his wife Marcia of White Stone, Tom Billups and his wife Sue Ellen of Richmond; six grandchildren, Drew Billups of Richmond, Trammell Beckmann (Brian) of Richmond, Claire Lewis (Jeromy) of Richmond, Kelsey Billups of Ohio, Brian Hudgins (Jennifer) of Gloucester, and Scott Hudgins (Stephanie) of Newport News. She is also survived by seven great-grandsons.

Anne graduated from American University in Washington, D.C., with a degree in education. She taught and was an administrator at the Gloucester County Day School in the 1970s and early ’80s. She loved giving to others and among other endeavors, volunteered for over 5,000 hours at Walter Reed Hospital in Gloucester. She was an active member of Westville Christian Church in Mathews.

Some of her favorite pastimes included gardening, reading, cooking and peaceful rides in her paddleboat. Though she missed the beauty and responsibilities of her childhood spent on her family farm, she deeply loved the close-knit community of Mathews where she spent her last 70 years.

The family appreciates the love given by neighbors, caregivers (Nancy, Jody, Gail), and extended family, especially during the last few months.

The family received friends on Monday, October 24, 2016, from 6-8 p.m. at Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, October 25 at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial followed in Trinity Cemetery, Foster, Virginia.
