ANN HUTSON ROWE

Mary Ann Hutson Rowe of New Point, born April 18, 1924, passed away Wednesday, September 7, 2016.

She was preceded in death by her husband, S. Emmett Rowe; parents, J. Lemuel and Minnie Grinnell Hutson, and two brothers, J. Lemuel Hutson Jr. and Edward G. Hutson.

Her survivors include a daughter, Nancy Lou Rowe Layng and husband Bill of North; grandson, C. Blair Evans and wife Wendy and two great-granddaughters, Macie and Leah Evans of Gloucester Point; niece, Susan H. Greene of Hallieford, and two nephews, William C. Hutson of Mathews and John L. Hutson of Frisco, N.C.

A faithful member of New Point Friends Church, she served as treasurer for many years, was a charter member of the Chesapeake Bay Circle of The King’s Daughters and Sons, and owned and operated Rowe’s Greenery for many years with her husband.

She will be remembered as being the best mother and friend a daughter could have; cooking fish for breakfast (“it’s brain food”) if you were going to have a test or exam, lemon meringue pies, icebox cookies and potato salad, getting a stain out of anything, her “green” thumb, painting skills, her many uses of kerosene, working in her yard and woods, and playing “Come and Dine” on the piano.

The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday at Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews.

A funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at New Point Friends Church. Burial will follow at St. Paul Annex Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to New Point Friends Church, P.O. Box 421, North Va. 23128 or the Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 723, Mathews, Va. 23109.
