And the winner is…

Carson Brown, Speller No. 4, won the Gloucester-Mathews Scripps Regional Spelling Bee held Saturday at the West Mathews Civic Center in Bohannon. The win gives him a trip to the Scripps National Spelling Bee to be held in May in Washington, D.C. He is a fifth grader at Thomas Hunter Middle School and he sealed the win with a correct spelling of “rehearse.” All of the five finalists came from THMS. From left are Tyler Price, Brown, Thomas Lewis, Nasir Thomas and Jackson Putt, and standing in front is Callie Vickers, wearing her Spelling Bee outfit. Nasir Thomas won the judges’ award of a Merriam-Webster Dictionary. Adult Literacy on the Middle Peninsula, Inc., sponsored the regional bee. ...
