An estimated 13,000-15,000 attend Guinea Jubilee

Organizers of this year’s Guinea Jubilee called the two-day event this past weekend “fantastic.” Unlike heavy rain for the 2015 festival, the weather this year proved to be quite the opposite. An estimated 13,000 to 15,000 people attended the 37th annual festival.

Tara Thomas, co-chair of the Guinea Jubilee Committee, speaking of the good weather conditions said, “God could not have looked down on us anymore fondly … especially after we needed an ark earlier in the week.” After four consecutive days of rain last week, the skies finally parted on Friday to pave the way for a beautiful weekend.

This year’s crowd, she said, seemed to be steadier than the normal push of people at various times throughout the festival. “We bumped heads with the home football game Friday night,” she said, noting that may have been one of the reasons the Jubilee crowd seemed less massive than in years past.
