AMOS GROVES WEST

Amos Groves West, a native of Gloucester County, died on Aug. 12, 2018 after a brief illness.

Amos graduated from Achilles High School Class of 1948, Old Dominion University, and the College of William and Mary. He retired from Hampton City Public School system, where he was an educator, coach, and administrator. A member of the Hampton Lions Club, First United Methodist Church, Hampton and attended Severn Church in Gloucester. 

Amos lived life to the fullest, fishing, playing tennis, cooking, riding his bike, and taking care of his beloved Joan.

Parents, Russell and Bettie West, and his brothers, Merton, William, and Marion Earl West preceded him in death.

Amos is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joan L. West; daughters, Jamee Hall and husband Gary, and Kristee Georgiou and husband George; grandchildren, Chase Hall and wife Lexi, Brett Hall and fiancée Emily, Alex Georgiou and fiancée Kelly, Eleni Georgiou and boyfriend, Robbie; great-grandson, Edward Amos Hall; sister, Fannie Johnson; brother, Ernest West, along with a multitude of loving nieces and nephews.

The family is grateful for their friends who continue to support them with love. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the Riverside Regional Hospital SICU doctors and nurses for the loving care they provided.  

The family will receive friends Friday, Aug. 24, 2018, from 6:30-8 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, 3098 George Washington Memorial Highway, Hayes, Va. 23072. A celebration of his life conducted by Pastor Bill West and Dr. Danny M. West will be held on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Severn Church, 9066 Robins Neck Road, Gloucester, Va. 23061. Inurnment will be private.
