Thomas Hunter Middle School student Brayden Smith was the winner of the American Legion Post 83 Americanism Essay Contest held at the Mathews school. Smith’s essay is now registered with American Legion District 3 where he has another opportunity to win. Smith received a $50 check for his winning essay and his English teacher Mary Beth Burroughs, at right, received a $25 check for classroom supplies.
