Alvin L. Newton, age 85, of Gloucester, died Tuesday morning, May 3, 2016, after extended health problems.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lucille Walker Newton; sister, Virginia Gnatwosky; four children and spouses, Elaine and Robert F. Hutcheson, Diane and William N. McIntyre, Warren L. Newton and Sabina (Lisa), Annette and Mark Tamblyn; nine grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

He was a respected businessman, an active member of Bellamy United Methodist Church, and his local community.

Alvin, referred to by many as “Big Boy,” was known and loved by those in his community. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather loving his family well. 

The funeral service will be held at Bellamy United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 7, at 11 a.m., followed by graveside service and a fellowship luncheon in the social hall.

Memorial donations may be made to either, Gloucester Fire and Rescue, Abingdon Fire and Rescue, or to Bellamy United Methodist Church.
