ALVERA ANDERSON RILEY

Alvera Anderson Riley, 98, of Gloucester, passed away after a lifetime that spanned almost a century, on Aug. 30, 2011 at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital.

Mrs. Riley was a voracious reader and enjoyed reading the Washington Post. She was a divine cook, talented seamstress, and loved shopping trips. She was dedicated to her family and spending time with them. Mrs. Riley had an independent spirit, strong principles, and a great sense of humor. She will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her devoted son and daughter-in-law, James and Kathleen Kirkley; three beautiful granddaughters, Kara Perkins, Kelley Blake and Krista Kirkley, and loving grandson, James Kirkley Jr. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Dylan, Kylie, Zachary and Kingston.

Graveside memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12, 2011, at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 1301 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, Md. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery.
