Alston succeeds Moore as Gloucester’s athletic supervisor

Those who have an interest in local sports will likely see Warsaw resident Ron Alston on the playing fields. He is Gloucester’s new athletic supervisor for the Parks, Recreation and Tourism department, succeeding Billy Moore, who held the position for nearly four decades.

Alston said athletics have played a huge part of his life growing up and through college. Before coming to Gloucester, he was program director for the Richmond County YMCA. Prior to that, he worked as an intern with children suffering from autism, which he said was a very rewarding position.

Alston, originally from New York, attended college at SUNY Delhi, SUNY Brockport and later at Springfield College in Massachusetts. He holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in sports management, recreation and coaching.

“Athletics are my thing,” Alston said. “I played sports through high school and college.”
