ALONZO S. WILKINSON JR.

Alonzo S. Wilkinson Jr. (Al), 91, passed away Dec. 27, 2019 at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital.

He was born in North Stonington, Connecticut, on Jan. 27, 1928 to Mary Spezeske and Alonzo S. Wilkinson Sr.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jean Sommer Wilkinson; his children, Jeffrey Wilkinson of Uncasville, Connecticut, and Amy Miller (Raymond) of Newport News; his grandchildren, Jared Norton and Kaleigh Miller, and his beloved dog, Snoopy.

Al was a graduate of Boston University and served in the U.S. Army. He had his own excavating business and retired from General Dynamics in Groton, Connecticut, as a crane operator. He moved to Gloucester in 2004.

Al was predeceased by two sisters, a brother, two nephews, and a niece. He is survived by five sisters, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Al was an avid animal lover and many stray dogs and cats found their forever home with him. He enjoyed reading the Bible and was strong in his religious beliefs. He attended Severn Church and belonged to SAM club. 

The family is truly appreciative of the care he received from Riverside Regional Medical Center and Riverside Walter Reed Hospital. A very special thank you to the wonderful staff at VHS Walter Reed Convalescent Center who provided compassionate and exceptional care.

Funeral services and burial will be held in Mystic, Connecticut.
