ALMA POWERS DUDLEY

A funeral for Alma Powers Dudley of Gloucester, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, 2015, at Severn Church, Gloucester. She died Nov. 28, 2015.

She was born Oct. 1, 1926 and raised in Gloucester. She was trained in the Nurses Corps and practiced as a Registered Nurse in the operating room at Buxton Hospital in Newport News. She married Gilbert S. Dudley in 1947, subsequently living in Pennsylvania, Richmond, Massachusetts, Florida and Texas.  She and her husband retired to her family’s homeplace in 1982. She was involved over the years in Girl Scouts, as well as church and other community activities. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Dudley; her parents, Etta Sterling Powers and William “Malvin” Powers, and her brother, William “Everett” Powers. 

Survivors include her daughters, Jane Skaare of Mechanicsburg, Pa., Betty Wilson of Houston, Texas, Barbara Riker of Fort Wayne, Ind., Susan Kanwischer of San Antonio, Texas, Ginny Kauffman of Toano, and Gayle Carlton of Tallahassee, Fla.; 11 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

The service will be conducted by the Rev. Bill West. Committal will be at 1:30 p.m. at Peninsula Memorial Park Cemetery, Newport News.
