Alliance seeks to attract businesses to region

The Mathews County Board of Supervisors heard a report on June 27 from Liz Povar, newly appointed executive director of the Middle Peninsula Alliance, a regional economic development corporation that has been established to bring business to the Middle Peninsula.

Povar said the alliance’s mission is to develop opportunities for the region. Such opportunities have come to other regions in the state, she said, but they’ve missed the Middle Peninsula because of a lack of a coordinated effort and a single point of contact for prospective businesses.

The alliance’s job is to build collaborative communities, provide education about the economic development resources available, and provide connectivity with professionals, said Povar.

The alliance will be responsible for developing a brand, a logo, and a marketing program, she said, as well as a three-year business plan to fund the organization and describe how it will affect the area.
