All Star team begins World Series play today

The Gloucester All Stars baseball team that won its state championship and the Southeast regional tournament is scheduled to compete in the 2012 Cal Ripken 12U Major/60 World Series at noon today in Winchester, Mass.

 

The Gloucester boys, competing in the National Division, are slated to take on the Middle Atlantic tournament winners from Kingsbridge, N.Y., today to open pool play. They will face Winchester on Friday. 

 

After pool play ends Monday, the top three winners in the National and American Divisions will compete in a single-elimination bracket for the World Series Championship beginning Tuesday.

 

Prior to the opening of pool play, the series participants were scheduled to attend a Banquet of Champions at the Boston Marriott Hotel in Burlington, Mass., yesterday evening and then the World Series Opening Ceremonies at Robert J. Nutile Field.
