All GHS fall teams advance to regionals

All of the Gloucester High School fall varsity athletic teams advanced to their respective regional competitions this year, which is probably a first, according to GHS Athletic Director Kristy Hunter. 

The Virginia High School League alignment puts Gloucester in Region 5A with five other Peninsula District teams, four from the Beach District, two from the Eastern District, and three from the Southeastern District.

In the past, the top two finishers in each district tournament advanced to the 5A regional competition. Now, the district tournaments are eliminated and the top eight teams in the region compete in the regional tournaments based on their regular season records. The exception is football, which works on a power ranking system.
