Alice Mae Owens, 97, of Moon, Va., died on Friday, Feb. 5, 2016, at her home.

Alice was born on Sept. 25, 1918 to James and Lilian McCarthy of New Jersey. Alice graduated from the Mercer Hospital School of Nursing in 1939. 

Alice was preceded in death by her parents; her adoptive parents, Hilton and Mary Green; her sister, Margaret Ewing, and her husband, Frank Owens.

She is survived by her sons, Thomas Prentice and wife Belinda of Moon, and Craig S. Prentice of Havertown, Pa.; her step-sons, John J. Owens and Richard M. Owens; her granddaughter, Brooke of Moon; her sister, Evelyn R. Whitehead, and her very special friend and caregiver, Noma Pugh of Mathews, Va.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society, P.O. Box 385, Gloucester, Va. 23061.

No services are planned.
