Alfred Scott Diggs, 82, of Cardinal, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 16, 2017, surrounded by his family.

He was a native of Mathews County, and the son of the late Wormley and Ophelia Diggs.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Gertrude Cooke Diggs; two daughters, Cynthia Harris (Arthur Jr.) of Gloucester and Judy Gaskins of Foster; two grandsons, Brian Scott Gaskins of Virginia Beach and Matthews “Trey” Gaskins III (Jody); two great-granddaughters, Jada and Jaslyn of Williamsburg; a brother, Hollis “Bunny” C. Diggs Sr. of Cardinal; three sisters: Rosie Spriggs and Fannie Ware of Cardinal and Catherine Forrest (Lyinel) of Susan; a sister-in-law, Frances Diggs of Cardinal, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 23, 2017, at Zion Baptist Church, 3546 East River Road, Cardinal, Va. 23025. 

Viewing will be Saturday, April 22, 2017, from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Forrest Brothers Funeral Home, 7437 Buckley Hall Road, Cobbs Creek, Va. 23035.
