ALENE MCHENRY

Alene McHenry, 78, of Glass, passed away on March 20, 2013.

“Miss Alene,” as she was fondly known, was born in Glass to the late Charles and Florida Brown on Aug. 27, 1934.

For most of her adult life Miss Alene traveled around the globe as an Army wife. It was her great pleasure to finally return home to her beloved Glass, or as she called it, “Sadler’s Neck,” at retirement time.

She was a daughter, niece, sister, “Army” wife, mother, grandmother, friend, teacher, committee member, volunteer, lover of children—especially those with special needs; church member, crafter and most of all caregiver to anyone who needed it. Miss Alene cherished all of those roles in her life with the understanding that they gave her fulfillment and purpose, and she would have it no other way.

Miss Alene is survived by her husband, Carlin “Mac” McHenry; son, Emory Nadeau and daughter-in-law Betty Ambrose; daughter, Rosa Coker (Chris Wiese); grandchildren, Damien Nadeau and Lylauni Wiese; brother, Leslie Brown; “special cousin” Cindy Robbins White, and Alene’s good friend and K-9 companion, “Sparky.”

Miss Alene will be missed and remembered by many.

Funeral services were held at Groves Memorial Presbyterian Church on Sunday, March 24, 2013, at 2 p.m. Burial was in the church cemetery.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to Groves Memorial Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 1263, Hayes, Va. 23072.
