A funeral for Agnes Virginia Spencer, 79, of Gloucester, was held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Bethel Baptist Church, Gloucester. She passed away on July 5, 2016.

Mrs. Spencer had been a member of Bethel Baptist for over 50 years, and had served on the Missionary, Hospitality, Health and the Board of Christian Education Ministries.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Matthew (Buddy) Miles and Ellen Dudley Martin; her husband of 41 years, Phillip Hubie Spencer; her son, Capt. Alvin M. Spencer, and her sisters, Jeanetta Coston and Marion Thompkins Blueford.

Survivors include her children, Angeline S. Arrington of Gloucester, Wayne A. Spencer of Mechanicsville, Va., Louise S. Murray of Gloucester, and Sheila S. Ware of Panama City, Fla; seven grandchildren, and two great-grandsons.

The service was conducted by the Rev. Michael W. Jackson and the Rev. Larry J. Arrington.

Burial followed in the church cemetery.
