Agencies present budget requests to Mathews BOS

The Mathews County Board of Supervisors met on Feb. 5 to hear presentations from 28 outside agencies regarding their budget requests for the Fiscal YeaAr 2026-27. The board spent several hours listening to agencies and organizations outlining the services they offer to Mathews residents and presenting the numbers for the funding required to carry out their missions. Other than the state-mandated expenses for Mathews Social Services and the request for public school funding that is the subject of an upcoming joint meeting of the supervisors and the school board, the requests totaled $1,549,275, an increase of $162,103 over last year’s budgeted amounts. Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad’s request for additional funding of $100,000 made up the bulk of that increase.
