Age-targeted condo plan for Mathews moves ahead

An age-targeted condominium development for downtown Mathews is currently in the planning stages and a site plan has been submitted to the planning and zoning office.

The Bush Companies of Williamsburg is developing the plan, which is proposed for a 13-acre site at Hyco Corner, across the street from the Dollar General Store in Mathews Town Center.

If eventually approved, the development would have 66 units, consisting of single-family homes, duplexes, and multiplex structures with four to five homes in them. The units would range in size from 1,000 to 3,000 square feet, said planning and zoning director John Shaw.

A large pond to gather storm water would be located adjacent to Buckley Hall Road, and a clubhouse for the development would be situated next to the pond. The site would have open space areas for residents, as well, said Shaw. Access would be from Buckley Hall Road and from Cross Court, which currently serves a small neighborhood behind Hyco House.
