Bethany United Methodist Church, Gloucester Point, hosted a free Active Aging Expo last Tuesday, Sept. 15, in its sanctuary, in partnership with Bellamy and Susanna Wesley United Methodist churches. The event was organized by Senior Advocate and sponsored by Garrett Realty Partners. The half-day event addressed invaluable information to support seniors as they age. Katie McDonough, Vice President of Programs with the Alzheimer’s Association, addressed new updates in Alzheimer’s and dementia research, and Greg Garrett, Chief Executive Officer of Garrett Realty, spoke on taking care of aging parents. “A lot is changing very quickly in the Alzheimer’s space,” said McDonough. At the beginning of her discussion, McDonough said she would help the assembled crowd better understand cognitive change and impairment “from a place of hope and a place of action.” More than 7 million Americans are now living with Alzheimer’s disease, while nearly 13 million are providing unpaid labor for a loved one...
